I have 13 years experience as a Maritime Lecturer having worked in senior roles for Edexcel UK, AMET University (In Partnership with City of Glasgow Nautical College), Plymouth University, South Tyneside College and City of Glasgow Nautical College.

Prior to teaching I spent 22 years working in the Indian Navy leaving the service as a Commander followed by 7 years working in the Merchant Navy sailing latterly as a Captain. I have experience on bulk carriers, product tankers, general cargo ships, offshore supply vessels and missile vessels and I've spent two years in charge of Port Operations and Control at a busy port. 

Worked on handy-sized geared bulk carriers, general cargo and Panamax bulk carriers until Masters CoC, then moved into Cargo Supers job loading timber products in SEAsia, spent a couple of years on coasters around NWEurope, worked as ChMate on Heavy Lift (500mt maxm lift)
Came ashore to take Lecturers position at Fleetwood for 10 years, now at City of Glasgow College.

I spent Fifteen years at sea on general cargo vessels, inclusive of: Container, Passenger, Ro-Ro, Reefer, with some bulk cargo additions. World- wide trades into Atlantic , Pacific and Indian oceans. Extensive coastal work about the UK, near continent, Baltic Sea, US and Canadian waters, Caribbean and South American waters.

Nautical teaching experience (33 years across all nautical subjects).
Main disciplines: Seamanship and Navigation.

I've Written and published eighteen nautical text books on the following subjects:-
Seamanship Techniques (4th Edn) Seamanship Examiner, Navigation for Masters, Marine Ferry Transports, Helicopter Operations at Sea, Cargo Work (8th Edn), Heavy Lift & Rigging, Dry docking, Ship Construction, Marine Survival, The Command Companion, Anchor Work, and joint Author to the Ice Navigation Manual, & Marine Technology Reference Book.
